the camera was working fine yesterday.. this morning I tried turning it on and its a black screen and I cannot press the shutter button.. with a rectangle display on the top right of the screen with stars flashing for a few seconds.. I am guessing that the lens is either not locked properly or the lens is not mounted properly..

When I take the lens off, then the camera works fine.. when I put the lens on then the screen goes black and I cannot press the shutter .. Please help..

Take it off and on again and make sure it clicks loud and clear when putting it back. If this doesn't work, you can probably clean the lens mount contacts with a soft rubber (keep the rubber residue out of the sensor chamber!) and if that doesn't help - give it to Oly for repair.

still not working.. When the lens is retracted(closed) is it suppose to be locked? cause I can move the lens without it locking.. or should I be able to move(retract/detract) the lens without it locking?

I'm not sure what you mean when you say that you can move the lens without it locking. Like you try to mount it on the camera, but it just keeps turning without clicking and stopping when the contacts line up?

sorry let me explain it further... when the lens is mounted and the lens is in the closed position.. am I suppose to press the unlock button to open the lens? because as of now, I can open and close the lens without pressing the unlock button..

Opening/closing the lens and mounting/dismounting it are two different things.

So your LCD screen doesn't say "Please check the status of the lens" right?

You are supposed to PRESS the LENS RELEASE BUTTON to RELEASE (disconnect) the lens from the camera. (When you CONNECT the lens to the camera, you should hear (or feel) it (the lens) CLICK into position). You should NOT BE ABLE TO (neither ATTEMPT TO) RELEASE the lens from the camera WITHOUT pressing the LENS RELEASE BUTTON. If you are able release the lens without pressing the LENS RELEASE BUTTON, - it has either NOT connected to the camera PROPERLY, - or you might have a mechanical failure of some sort?
