monitor too dark with flash
« on: May 12, 2011, 10:17:23 AM »
I have an external flash on my e-p1 and when i do the settings manually i cant see anything on the display. Probably because the flash hasnt got any ttl and the display shows brightness without flash.
Is there any way to bypass this?

Also i have to keep aperture wide open.

Probably matters also if i use kit lens or legacy lens without aperture control
cheers
tom

I dont quite get what your saying.. youre saying the LCD on the camera goes dark when you put a hotshoe flash on the camera? and that the aperture stays wide open?
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

Put your camera in M mode and dial shutter speed 1/30 or 1/60, put ISO 100 and play with the aperture until you get correct exposure.
If your flash comes with a booklet, read it. They usually explain how to use the flash. Also how to set your camera to match the automatic program in your flash' exposure computer (if any).

The camera doesnt know about flash settings (no ttl) so its displaying the picture like without flash.

No, i have to fully open it to see at least something.

I use ISO200 and 1/200sec in relative low light situation.  I need fast shutter times because fishes are moving fast.
