manual focusing with legacy lense and e-p1
« on: January 31, 2010, 08:38:50 PM »
hello im planning to buy a new camera, and my two main options are the panasonic g1, and the olympus e-p1

im planning to use some legacy lense, and i was wondering if its difficult to focus with the e-p1. i know the magnification helps, but is focusing without the mf zoom assist hard? i also mainly/always shoot handheld.

i was considering the panasonic g1, because i hear the EVF makes it easier to focus with legacy lense. but then i wont have image stabilization. and i also like the styling of the e-p1

any input from you guys would be a lot of help thankyou.

ps. i currently shoot with an lx3. would a g1 be a better compliment? thnx

i just don't understand the form of the g1,  why oh why did it emulate the prism hump of slrs when it has no mirror?to contain an evf ? why does it need to look like an amorphous lump of polycarbonate? a meterorite?

it  could have been sleeker more  compact and elegant like the gf1\ ep1 are and thrown off that hackneyed old form that slrs need and have, that the g1 gh1 didnt, and the gf1 ep1\2 arent burdened with

i would choose an ep 1 and learn to focus on a "digital ground glass " similar to the way shooters did really back in the day in the 19 th century...........the eye level  focus thing thing is so 20 th century

i mf with a gf1 &ep1 and it take some getting used  to at first .........but i love it now and would not go back

but thats just me

@cosinaphile
I like your description "digital ground glass". :)

@wolfad
If you want to include legacy lenses in your agenda, I believe In-body stabilization does have some edge.
