Help with EP-2 please
« on: January 20, 2012, 07:04:10 AM »
I've had my 2 for about a year and have done a lot of photography in auto and program mode but lately I've been attending a number of photography meetups and have been challenged to get more serious with my photography.

But playing with all the settings has has lead me to a few questions that haven't been able to find answers to. Any help with the following questions would be appreciated.

1) Somehow I got the camera into a mode where the shutter display on the main display showed as a series of inches e.g. 4" and not the more customary 125, 250... What does 4" mean and how did I get it into that mode?

2) I purchased a remote shutter control but I can't figure out how to make it work. I assume that I have to turn on some setting but haven't been able to find the setting. Any idea?

3) I'd like to give HDR photography a try but I don't find any way to control bracketing for HDR. I did find the section a bracketing using compensation but it appears to only allow a max of +/-1. Am I missing something? How do I get larger F-Stop variations, like +/-3?

Any help on these points would be greatly appreciated.

Gary

These are full seconds, in contrast to 125, 250, etc, which are fractions of a second  (1/125, 1/250, etc.)

You don't have to change anything in order for it to work. Possibilities are:
 - Cable not inserted all the way;
 - Shutter release not correct model;
 - Shutter release simply defective.

There is a bracketing, but it's in a deep menu dive. Read your manual, it has an index at the end, seek for Bracketing and read the corresponding page in the manual on how to enable it.

Thanks for the reply.

I guess I was confused. My last digital camera used an "s" to indicate seconds so the quote mark didn't make any sense and I couldn't find any reference to it in the manual.

I did find the section on bracketing, page 45, but I found it confusing. There appears to be three choices 3F 0.3EV, 3F 0.7EV and 3F 1.0EV. I read the .3 and .7 to be fractions of an F-Stop giving a maximum bracketing of 1 F-Stop. Am I incorrect in this assumption. The manual isn't real clear on the whole EV thing.

For more compensaton, there's the small button near the shutter release, that will allow compensation of up to +/- 3EV, but will have to be operated manually.

Your best bet for HDR work is to use manual mode. When using A mode, the EV won't let you change more than +-3 stops. I use my E-P1 a lot, it's my primary camera, and most of my work is HDR, and I always shoot manual mode.
