Get Olympus Facebook Q&A
« on: July 21, 2011, 10:04:02 AM »
Get Olympus facebook is starting their Q&A session every thursday at 3pm eastern (noon pacific).  Ask good questions about the E-P3.  So many people post the most stupid questions about stuff we don't care about.

A couple questions I asked were will AF tracking work with 4/3 legacy lenses?

"The legacy lenses (most of them) are not internal focus so consequently don't focus quite as quickly using contrast detect AF."

But, then I looked it up, and many 4/3 lenses do have internal focus.  So I asked will the lenses that do have internal focus work with tracking?  The answer was

"The C-TR (continous autofocus tracking) was introduced with the PEN E-P2, it is compatible with the mFT lenses at this time."

I'm guessing it's a firmware issue.  Maybe lens firmware, and they don't want to dedicate resources in reprogramming/testing and updating the legacy lenses.  Which is understandable, considering how small Olympus is and all the effort they are putting into the PENs now.

Then I asked the hard question.  Why the slightly poorer than E-P1 results on DXOMark and DPReview for E-P3 sensor score and RAW images? Is it because their tests were run using beta code?

"Hard to say, since we did not witness their testing methods. I usually take those type of results with a grain of salt, meaning I don't necessarily consider the result to be 100% accurate but respect it none the less."

Some other news.  The mini flash included with the E-PM1 and E-PL3 will work on E-P1 etc...  And it will be sold as a stand alone accessory.

I also asked for a 12mm view finder that does AF confirmation like the Fuji X100 hybrid, and a finger sling grip like you can get on leicas for the E-P3.  Olympus responded that they would like to see quick focus rings too...   :o

I think it's a normal hotshoe flash that is using LEDs as the flash, which is why it's so small because LEDs require so little power.  They said it will work on 4/3 bodies as well.

That thing will probably sell quite well, but hopefully it won't take the sales away from the other small Olympus flashes.

Reminder, Olympus Q&A tomorrow at 3pm Eastern on facebook.  I'll try to make it, but I can't think of any questions at the moment.  Next week I will have a ton of questions because I will have my E-P3 to play with by then.

If you have questions post them here.  They won't answer anything about future products.  Don't ask Yes or No questions.  Try to phrase them as open ended by using how, what or why.
