Flash Sync for E-P3
« on: August 15, 2011, 05:56:47 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I have quite a good impression of the E-P3.
I would like to use the E-P3 for studio photography.

Can anyone tell me whether this is possible?
I'm new to studio photography.

Many thanks for your help.

Terence

Yes, it syncs up to 1/180 second, which is plenty for studio work.

The sync speed of 1/180 will be fine for studio work. When I was doing stuido work, I was generally shooting at ISO100 and typically around f/11 even with the studio lights at lower power settings (because they were often set quite close to the subject).

Being restricted to ISO200 will mean adding a ND filter to get a reasonable aperture but not a huge issue.

Could you go into more detail on what this means?   Why the restriction?  What is the ND filter for?

ISO200 is the lowest ISO value that you can set for the Olympus E-P3. The higher the ISO, the greater the amplificaiton of the light received on the camera's sensor and less powerful a flash you need. To reduce the amount of light received on the camera's sensor, you need to change the aperture by going to a higher number, e.g. changing from f/8 to f/11.

When you run out of f-stop range, your only option is to add a neutral density filter (ND), essentially sunglasses for your camera.

...Thanks.  it all makes sense now.    Did a little reading on the ND filter as well.
