Fantastic battery life with E-P3
« on: September 23, 2011, 03:17:34 AM »
Well I have been playing with my Olympus Pen E-P3 for a while now and I have to say I am impressed with the battery life. Tonight I took over 800 RAW shots some previewing and deleting and the battery meter still has all bars showing.

Olympus only rates the E-P3 for around 330 shots and my old E-P1 for 300 shots. With the E-P1 I would get between 270 and 450 shots under typcial use so the rating for the E-P1 was fair enough. I don't think I would have any probem getting over 1000 shots with the E-P3.

I find I am getting less shots from my batteries in the EP3 than I did with the EP2 and there is no way I could get 1000 shots from my batteries, I seem to be getting around the 300 mark. Is that using a VF2 or just the screen Peter?
EP-3, VF 2, 14mm, 17 mm, 20 mm, Nokton 25 mm, 45mm, 14-42 mm, 40-150mm. E-5 and a quiver of 4/3 lenses.

When I took my EP3 in the last trip I was really surprised by the same fact, the battery lasted way longer than on the EP1, my friend had an EP1 and she was borrowing my extra batteries!, really happy with it :)

Same here, but I found that I had to shut down the camera between shots more often rather than let the screen time out to save more battery life.

One thing I have found is that going from full bars to dead battery happens very quickly. I have managed over 800 shots with the E-P3 but generally take 300 to 500 before recharging.

Going from full bars to dead may take as little as 30 shots. I always turn off the camera if not using it and rarely ever use the built-in flash.
