Exposure level indicator
« on: July 09, 2009, 02:50:03 AM »
I have read the E-P1 manual and I cant find the "Exposure level indicator"
This option is very important when using Manual focusing.
Any comments?

The exposure indicator is right of the Aperture and Shutter read outs on the bottom of the screen. Also since it is live view, what you see is what you get with the picture. So as you adjust your ISO/Shutter/Aperture the live view reflects what the real picture is going to look like.

All cameras today have live view.
In order to make a good pro picture one nide the Exposure and the Aperture and the Exposure Level Indicator.
The Exposure Level Indicator acts as a light meter! and its a very important tool
In the G1 and GH1 I saw that there is an    Exposure level indicator
I hope that they will put it in the E-P2,
 I am waiting...

Out of personal choice I prefer to use histogram view (push info a few times) -so far I haven't had any issues with over/under exposing drastically. I make a judgement on whether the picture looks ok, check the histogram and expose to the right. I don't tend to use the +/- exposure feature on digicams... should I?

I wish there was a way to display the old 'wobbly needle' in the right of the frame :P It would be preferable to a +1,+0,-1,-3... readout.

What exposure level indicator are you guys looking for? Because there is one. If you set to manual exposure, you get numbers at the middle bottom for shutter and aperture. Then to the right of this you get a number with +/- in front. This is the exposure meter. It's telling you how under or exposed you are. In addition, since this is a live view, the whole image brightens and darkens depending on whether you are under or over exposing. I don't know how much more you could ask for.

bcaslis - on a bright day light the brightens and darkens on the screen will not be seen.
Can you make a picture and post it here of the screen with the numbers at the middle bottom for shutter and aperture and with the +/- in front?

in M mode, the bottom of the screen, left to right is: shutter speed (yellow text), aperture (yellow text), then the exposure level in white text.

Personally, although I like the light meter on my OM-1 most, I found the E-P1 text base indicator much easier and faster to read, than any other digital indicator on digital cameras, compact or DSLR.

Look at the post by lok cheung. This explains how the exposure meter appears. The LCD brightening or darkening has nothing to do with this. It will automatically gain up or down based on the light so you can see it properly. I don't know how to explain this any simpler.
