I have the money to get either kit with 17mm plus an extra lense.

Would you get the EP-2 just because of the EVF? or use the extra money for other lenses now?

I really like the thought of having a EVF....but think i could also easily get by without it.

Thanks for opinions

I would personally get the E-P1 and spend the extra money on getting a bigger lens collection if you don't care about the EVF. The coolest part about the Pen series is the option to use ANY lens. That's my opinion. What's cooler than having a collection of fun lenses.....after all isn't what the PEN is for, to make photography fun?

E-PL1 is best bang for the buck.

E-P1 without a doubt

there is nothing about the E-P2 that would stop me buying an E-P1 today
I've not looked hard enough at the E-PL1 spec, but I doubt I'd get one of them either

It is a hard choice. I have both cameras and I have the same problem when deciding which camera to take out. I like the look of the E-P1 better. I like the viewfinder on the E-P2, but only in certain situations and it makes the camera larger. The E-P1 was less expensive. It depends on what I'm going to do, but I often end up with the E-P1. Then I have to decide what lens to put on  :)

It all depends on how much money means to you, how much you will do manual focus especially with legacy lenses (want the EVF for that), how your eyes are and whether or not you might want to use the viewfinder more and what you think of the appearance of the cameras.

For me, the EVF is essential. Like many of you, I enjoy playing around with legacy lenses but an additional reason is close up photography. For example, taking a photo of a flower from a horizontal position 2 feet above ground is impossible (at my age anyway) without the EVF.

I would prefer a high resolution articulating screen over an EVF, however.

…because you won’t see what you’re shooting if you do.

I'm actually a bit surprized at how many people are saying E-P1 (myself included) ... is that due to the fact that there are more E-P1 owners in here?

Yes.

E-Pl1 is the best bang for the buck unless some flaw is discovered after its release. The e-p1 has more features in the control department, but less options. E-pl1 is the only pen with a dedicated video button. It is supposed to have improved auto focus speed and it has an added art filter. It includes the diorama filter which is very popular but excludes some of the other filters. The e-pl1 is the camera that will make the pen extremely popular and finance further development into the high end market of micro 4/3rds.

I am waiting to get the e-pl1. I can get it and the kit zoom +17mm for $880 and still have the option to buy the EVF if I want. Oh yeah, I will also have manual control of video recording.

i have the e-p2. and i am happy. having the viewfinder option is just perfect, but i must agree it makes the whole package larger. and i like the grey body more than silver. If oly comes up with a rangefinder design with build in viewfinder (maybe even flash - i have a digilux 2 also), i will think again, but until then, i am extremely satisfied. (20mm 1,7 is a must have).

Thanks for the opinions....

Is using legacy lenses on the EP-1 easy to focus with using the LCD or is the EVF better?

Im sure it is better....so is it easily doable?
