Can not up date firm ware to 1.2
« on: January 22, 2010, 08:47:52 PM »
I bought my EP1 last sunday and have been playing with it.  I tried to up date my firm ware to 1.2 (body) from 1.1 but it just showed a circle turning for about 10 minutes and then said:  Failure to communicate with the camera.  I tired it 3 times with the same result.  BTW, I was successful in up dating my kit lens 14-42 from 1.0 to 1.1 without any problem.  I did the lens up date right after the body up date failure without disconnecting anything and it worked on the lens.  Anyone knows why.  My camera shows body at 1.1 so I shouldup date to 1.2, right?

Thanks.

Did you make sure the lens was fully extended before you turned the camera on? The lens and camera need to be in fully operational position before attempting to communicate with the camera.

It can be a little temperamental.

Make sure your battery is fully charged.
Extend your lens to the operational position. (If it is the kit zoom)
Plug the USB into your computer.
Plug the other end of the USB cable into your camera. (Your camera will automatically turn on when the cable is plugged in to the camera .)
Follow the software update instructions.

It should do the update correctly.

When the camera prompts you to choose a mode, select "Storage".

I did.  I managed to do it successfully on the kit lens up date but not the body up date.  Thanks for your help.

Can you default to Storage so you don;t have to keep hitting OK when you plug in?

This is probably caused by errors on the USB port. These errors might not bother you under normal operation, because they will be re-tried so you don't see them, but the Olympus software is really picky about errors, if there is even one it quits. People that have had this problem have been able to update by using another machine, which is a pain, but it works.

Are you using a usb hub, or direct into the computer?
