Bought an E-P1 14-42mm bundle, what next?
« on: February 11, 2010, 01:31:57 PM »
I would like to ask if anyone can help me decide on what to do next. I am undecided whether to continue using my old Nikon E Series lens, start a collection of Voigtlander VM lenses or be frugal and just use what I have.

Some other facts to consider are that I have the following:
1) Nikon E 50mm f1.8 (from my FG20)
2) Pentacon 3.5/30 (made in GDR) screw mount (from a vintage Zenith SLR)
3) HELIOS -44-2 2/58 screw mount (from a vintage Zenith SLR)
4) Makinon Macro 135mm 1:2.8 (PK mount)
5) RMC Tokina 80-200mm 1:4.5 (OM mount)
6) Mitsuki MC Macro 75-260mm 1:4.5 (PK mount)
7) Panagor Auto Macro Converter (screw mount)
8) AICO 7ELEMENT AUTO TELE CONVERTER 2X MC (PK mount)

As you can see from mix, it quite hard to decide which way to go.

Any comments and suggestions are welcome.

i see your dilemma, i think that the first order of business should be a fast prime , look for an inexpensive nikon converter for 35 dollars or so ,on e bay . i understand the series e ,despite being a less costly line ,was optically excellent.

so the 50 1.8 will become a very nice 100 mm 1.8 portrait lens a perfect shor tele as it were .

with your kit thats enuf to start doing lots of good stuff

after that i would probably go with the pk mount as that long kinda fast zoom the mitsuki[mitsumi] 75-260

sounds cool ,and will become an exotically fast 150 -520 4.5 zoom . wow !to get sharp handheld will be a challange keep the shutter speed at 1\1000 or higher and set the I.Stab. to mode 1@ 500mm

and the makinon will give the fov 270 2.8 also exotic numbers considering

take a look at some of the work of the great photographer of the past   and seeing what appeals to you take
a look at the way lights and darks exist in the" rectangle" of the photo , or how color is used , how shape is used  or movement circulates , great pics are great for a reason ,  what you see first, what you see second dwell on one image for a few minutesor even longer ,

and play with the pen every chance you get , set in in a mode pop a manual lens on and shoot away see what some exposure comp does compare different isos and " digital films"  you have made a wonderful choice and i predict your gonna love the world of micro 4\3 as so many here do

I would set the IS to the ACTUAL focal length in use (something between 75 and 260mm).
If you don't see my mirrors, I can't see you...
