A few E-p1 E-p2 questions!
« on: February 15, 2010, 06:46:19 AM »
Greetings Pensters,

I have a few questions I would like answered before I buy.

Can the e-p2 shoot time lapse?

Will a firmware update one day make the video option on the e-p1 fully manual?

Thanks in advance...

1. Not in its feature set. I am not aware of a time lapsed shutter cable for Olympus PEN / E-series either.

2. Perhaps only Olympus knows.

1 - Nope. And as Gareth said, I don't know of any add-on shutter release that would. The only remote shutter is an IR one BTW.
2 - Could it be added, probably. Will Oly do it - probably not. I am sure that they want to maintain some differences between the two models aside from the EVF and it's slot.

Here is an intervelometer for time lapse:

http://www.amazon.com/Control-Olympus-Digital-Cameras-replace/dp/B0031ZQZXC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1266294502&sr=8-2

Here is the name of the item if the link does not work--TM-J LCD Timer Remote Control for Olympus E-P2 E-P1

Predicting is hard, especially about the future. I am sure no one knows what upgrades Olympus will make to any model. Most likely they will confine themselves to operation and not add new features.

Thanks folks.  I went ahead and got an e-p2.  The manual video function is important for me.

I also hope that 25fps becomes possible via a firmware update!

Thanks again...

Find a good metalworker with experience with lens mount adapters, I can give you the m4/3 mechanical specification, and figure out
with the metalworker how to measure the Nikon series E mount dimensions.

Yikes!  Sounds expensive.  Sorry I am new to this, but have I not read elsewhere on this forum that such an adapter exists?  Is there a difference between an converter and an adapter?

Thanks.

Can't really say, I am a second language speaker.

My OM mount adapter was made this exact way and costed me EUR 15 excluding postage. It was made by a craftsman in Bulgaria, but I guess that where you live labour might be more expensive.

Wait a minute there, see this info from Wikipedia:

Series E — A line of lower-cost lenses manufactured during the 1980s for Nikon's amateur SLRs. They sacrificed some construction quality and employed simpler optical designs. All were specified as AI-S, but not branded Nikkor, instead carrying the text "Nikon Lens Series E."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikon_F-mount

Are you sure that a plain Nikon F-mount or AI mount adapter won't work for you?

Please also be informed that there is a special category in the forum called Lenses. You should ask this question inthere. As far as I know, there are quite some very proficient Nikon users around, together with PEN users, of course  8)
