3rd Party/Compatible Battery for EPL1
« on: September 17, 2011, 04:45:32 PM »
Hi all!

I just bought EPL1 and noticed that the battery is not v strong.  There are shops that suggest for me to buy 3rd party/compatible batteried as they are cheaper than the original batteries. Could I ask if this would damage the camera or charger? I do notice that the batteries have different capacity and voltage from the original.

It takes about half a dozen charges for the battery to achieve full-stamina (or whatever you want to call it).

Regardless, a second battery is highly desirable. I have 2 original batteries and 1 Chinese knock-off. I don't really notice the difference.

The voltages are all the same. That is the nature of the materials used. What varies is the capacity but there are differences between stated and actual capacity and I expect that most are about the same when it comes down to it.

I have two 3rd party batteries from ebay, just generic jobbies.  They are actually very good value and seem to have a slightly longer running life than my OEM Olympus one, but it is only by an hour or so.  I had 4 ebay batteries for my 400d and never had a single issue with any of them :)

Thanks! Sounds like a good deal to get the 3rd party battery. Just wondering if it would damage the camera? That's what the Olympus guy told me it might!

Nah, it won't. The only issue is the power output being high enough to fry your camera's electronics, but that is a very unlikely occurrence that I have personally never heard of actually happening.

What, the guy that wanted to sell you a battery that he had in stock and will cost 4 or 5 times as much as one you can get delivered in the mail in a couple of days?
