......why the hell dont they make one???????

check out this thread: http://e-p1.net/olympus-e-p3-e-pl3-and-e-pm1/e-p3-image-quality-improvement/

Is it possible that we are rushing to judgment on the E-P3?

Nevertheless I still maintain my stance that some individuals will need ISO 1600.  To think you can shoot everything at ISO 400 or less nowadays is simply not realistic.

Note the keywords "some individuals: ;)

The other option is that you're right and I'm wrong.... :)

I agree about iso 1600. Definitely useful at times. But this discussion was about iso 6400.
Luckily, the E-P3 seems to offer excellent quality up to iso 1600.
My point was that it's better to use bright lenses than to rely on very high iso. With lenses that are f/2.0 or brighter and normal street/indoor lighting, you usually get away with iso 400, at least for stationary subjects. Bright lenses also tend to give images with more "soul" due to the thinner DOF, in my opinion. Of course, if the subject is moving or the light is extraordinary dim, you will need more than iso 400. I think iso 1600 is a good max limit. Over that is definitely "special purpose".

Your view on 1600 is opinion only.... :) ;) ;)
I see no facts out there to back up your opinion

And if you purchased the slow M.Zuiko 75-300, you'll need 1600 or more quite often for action shots..... ;)

Or perhaps I'll just call you right and me wrong, but you the drinks now....I think I'll just do that.....

Apologies for my previous posts, you're obviously correct here.. :)

Come on, man, we don't have to be right or wrong, it's simply that some people like some things and others like others things.

in reality, high ISO is needed, theres no way around it, even with faster glass. 4/3s is slowly but surely moving towards the right direction but I predict AT LEAST 2 more cycles before clean (usable, printable, 100% crops wont melt your eyes viewable) ISO 6400. But you know, by then canon will have already released an ISO 409600 35 mp full frame monstrosity, and we'll still have this argument over clean ISO 12k. ;)
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

I used to think this...but Agent00soul has proved me wrong with his example and statements....

Well, a lot depends on three things:
  • Subject / Sports or fast moving
  • Speed of Glass (at times)
  • Light Quality

I own a 400mm f/5.5 old telephoto lens.
In daylight I need a min ISO 640 to get a fast SS, I like at least 1/400 with this baby, and in dimmer light, I need at least ISO800 but ISO 1250 would be nice. So, it just depends... I would love to shoot with my 2lbs+ lens at f/11 and still have 1/800 or faster. A high ISO allows this... I am glad the G3 has very good ISO 1600, I will use it out of necessity to allow a better DOF on my 400mm, and a higher Shutter Speed, both important with long/heavy tele lenses in any light.

well, then I disagree with with him, fast glass is called fast glass because you can use high shutter speeds. Otherwise it would be called clean glass, because you can use lower ISOs... even at relatively slow events I'm at ISO 500.
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

how can anyone argue against the utility of shooting faster , if i can get good quallity from iso 3200 from a sensor , then im all over it

sure its nice to shoot the base iso of 200[ iso 100 is pulled?] but realistically
theres many times when the light is so dim that the fastest glass isnt enuf
subject movement

and do i understand things correctly that the old slr rule of shutter being the reciprocal of lens .... ie. a 100mm lens shoot at 1\100 or faster does not exactly apply to m4\3? that the crop doubles apparant shake etc and necessitiate a doubling of the speed of this old rule

theres so many times  i need to bump up shutter speed ican tell you
working wide open, iso 6400 that looks like iso 200 is a dream that i hope they never stop chasing

the iso perf of the x 100 at 3200 is one of the reasons for my interest in this camera, but what i really need is aa m4\3 body gf1 ep1 form factor
with an awesome sensor
