there is banding, but detail retention is great, and some color noise reduction will hide this fairly well
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

I don't think there really is any banding is there? (I mean the kind of luminance banding you get at high ISO on some other cameras such as GH1, which can't easily be removed.)

The color noise in this shot is pretty easy to remove.

The lettering edging are nice and formed, the Color noise (Mostly Blue) is easily removed,
but what can remove the banding?
Also it is underexposed by at least 1 stop.... would giving it more exposure help curb the banding?

I assume ISO1600 'cos it's hand held? If not then 3-4 stops more exposure would have been in order. For iso1600 with that amount of shadow then that's impressive.
