Third party M43's fisheye lens for E-P1
« on: September 02, 2010, 12:14:05 PM »
Has anybody ever tried one of these fish eye lenses? It says it has autofocus, which I can't believe. They got these on amazon a lot when I look for parts for my E-P1.

Also, has anybody tried those third party lens adapters? Like, I want to try the Canon FD adapter...

This is a front attachment fish-eye. It's not able to form an image on its own, but rather relies on the main lens for that. It does not have autofocus, but the kit lens has.
My advice is to avoid attaching anything heavier than a filter on the front of the kit zoom ( I understand you have Olympus kit zoom) in order not to damage the internal AF gear.
About adapters - you will supposedly have no problems with Canon FD adapters. Get one which closes the diafragm with a twist of a ring on the adapter itself, as it will be of better use later on, when you deside you want to shoot with the legacy lens stopped down.

You'll get a lot of vignetting, but a fairly cool fisheye effect from it.

Sony has got clever here....
For their 16mm NEX lens, Sony will sell two small attachments, one being a fish-eye, the other a wide angle...

Wow....will they sell a the price of Oly's 9-18mm native lens, or are they just going to be more expensive?

Thank you adash, that makes a lot of sense. I actually didn't intend to use autofocus, I just mentioned it because if it had been an actual lens, that would be quite cheap and with autofocus at that! Now that I know that it is an adapter, I rather not have that hanging from my poor baby lens. Thanks all.
