Is there a condensing adapter for FF SLR lenses?
« on: August 31, 2010, 05:30:32 PM »
Many of the older SLR lenses are FF.  It seems a shame that so much of that light is wasted on the Pens.  Since all the adapters are just empty tubes due to the registration distance...  I wonder if there is someone making use of all that empty space.  A condensing adapter would be awesome.  It would buy another 2 stops or so of light.  A F1.4 lens with a condensing adapter would embarass a F0.95 lens in low light.  So is there anything like that for any mount?

I know that some of you grind your own.  I have to admit that my glass grinnding skills aren't the best.

Hmm.......  actually the second I posted this, I had an idea for doing this easily and simply.  Off to experiment.....

Experiment failure.  Oh well.  I've seen them to adapt medium format lenses to 35mm.  In the telescope world they aren't uncommon.  It doesn't seem like it would be that hard.  There are adapters that have lenses to adapter shorter reg dist lenses to longer reg dist bodies.  Same basic principal.  It doesn't seem like it would be harder than that or more expensive.  Those are about $40-$50.

i went to band h some months ago and looked at a condenser to seen if it seemed if it sould be adapted but the distances to the sensor were gonna be a problem , ill bet a condenser could be made , and even if they needed to create 3 different ones for wide med and long lenses they would sell great

Or you need a focal length reducer?
