it would be built like a professional camera with professional materials ,it would have a large battery and provide the user with a professional experience, its interface and controls would be geared to the pro user and it would be part of a system of equipment for the pro  user starting with an array of fast prime lenses without the awful focus by wire crap  we've been saddled with it would have  wireless multi strobe ability and the ability to use the camera live with a laptop, hmmmm what else?

I am not a pro but I would expect a high-end M4/3 to be:

  • Durable frame build yet retain the small form factor without a huge hump
  • Great built-in or add-on EVF of sensible size and stylish fit with occlusion sensor detection
  • Really fast AF
  • High ISO performance
  • Weather sealing
  • Live viewing and control with a notebook computer
  • Simultaneous wireless file transfer options
  • Wireless flash command
  • Flip, tilt, and swivel OLED screen with vibrant colors
  • Improvement in Dynamic Range
  • 1080P movie
  • High quality prime lens line up
  • With or without built-in flash
  • IBS please definitely

Take a look at that:

This is what I would like a high-end m4/3 camera to look like!
The shaft viewfinder is certainly a must, and a small mirror accessory should easlly cover it up and transform it to the more classic eye-level VF....this would be easily acomplished with an OLED screen facing up, since there is no room for mirror between lens and sensor. The LCD on the back should also be present.
And yes, a dial for every setting! I also preffer to have the dial for lens aperture on the front, just behind the lens mount.

Features should be more like these on the E30. I still consider that a high-end DSLR.
Well....I am a dreamer, am I not?

Magnesium alloy body with rubberised surfaces.

AF assist lamp.

3.5mm-stereo audio imput jack built in.

A more efficient movie codec.

Standard mini USB data/external power with the option to recharge the battery in camera.

Folding/rotating LCD of at least 460k pixels.

Built in IR remote and intervalometer.

Weather sealing would be nice but not 100% essential for me.

Comes in black, black or black.
Be nice to each other, life is too short for anything else.

There is no good excuse to put a LCD on with less than 920k nowadays. If anything they should be pushing higher. I'd go for a tilting one.

Compared to E-P1, I'd like more buttons to directly access settings.

I'm with Cosinaphile on the focus by wire. It's by far the worst feature of the 4/3 family.
Cameras big and small: Sony HX9V, Olympus E-P1, Canon 300D (IR mod), 7D and many others!
