« on: December 16, 2011, 12:24:39 AM »
After i convinced the video director at the photo agency Im now a part of that panasonic dominates video, I got the chance to play around for a while with a brand spankin new af101. You know what I found after a while? it has manual peak focusing!!! what the F@%k?!!!? why in the hell wasnt this included in the GH2 update??????? ITS WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT!!!!!! WAKE THE F@%K UP PANASONIC!!!!!!!!!!!!! PUT THIS ON YOUR FU@$#%NG M4/3 CAMERAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From the product specs on the manual:
Focus assist that can be used while recording (color on peaking and focus bar)

Who would you kill for this feature? I can think of at least 12 people so far...

I never knew that....so probably Panasonic just wants to charge a premium for another simple software feature.

It must be a good feature to get you so worked up! I've never seen it in operation and what I found on the web was for Sony. How exactly does it work? Could it be used for stills?

To be honest I don't use manual focusing much on the GH2--primarily for macro--and when I use it for video I just set it before shooting and leave it. My preference for video is the touch screen which works reasonably well except for the confined focus area. However, a clear indication of focus could make manual operation a much more pleasant experience.

Many MILLIONS world wide.....

I thought the Window in Window at 4x was a nice add to the G3.. BUT, to have a COLOR border around the focused area is just too easy to get it right!
YES, I want it also.... I hope it is JUST a Firmware update!  That would be awesome  8)

So, how to we "Occupy Panasonic" to have then offer it the G line m4/3's?
Who do we write/call/email and otherwise bug the crap out them until they do it just to get rid of us  :P

Like others have said before, it's something the camera already has to figure out for auto focus, so just outputting it to the display shouldn't be hardly any work at all!  I was thinking there was possibly a patent issue with Sony, but I've since seen the feature on external LCD displays for video production, and I guess the af101 apparently has it too, hmmmm

Maybe they don't want the feature because they think it would slow sales of their own lenses?? In 'pro' video everything pretty much has to be manual focus, even the auto-focus lenses, so its considered a more necessary feature...

I generally have the false-color focus assist turned on all the time on my Af100. Its a great feature but. . .I have discovered it doesn't work that well when doing a camera move, I'm not sure if its latency in the VF system or what but Its not very reliable for pulling focus with a telephoto.

It is a shame its not built into the GH2, any camera that is oriented for legacy-lenses should have something like this.

If we are going to start a "whine" thread on GH2 VF features I would like to add my request for exposure zebra.

Zebras might be far more useful for exposing highlights than a histogram, but its also way more difficult to understand. Most people have difficulty dealing with a histogram as it is, the gh3 would have to be reeeeally pro oriented to get this.
