POLL: Should I Sell G3/14/20 to get the OM-D EM-1?
« on: January 31, 2012, 10:49:41 AM »
I would be left with the Oly 14-42, 24mm Nikkor, 50mm f/1.4 Canon FL, 55mm f/3.5 Micro Nikkor, 105mm f/2.8 Soligar, 135mm f/2.8 Nikkor

IF, the body only is around $1000 to $1100, my sell off would just about match it.

My biggest like, is the that my fingers won't press buttons by mistake. I hope the 4way is fairly low, but, that thumb rest is a God Send.
IQ wise, I am sure it be plenty and more for me.
I always liked the OM-4 I owned, it was well made and the controls where just where they should be for "Blind" adjusting.  I think the OM-D will be similar in design as far of what we have seen via the leaks.

G3 is a nice camera. I don't believe that OM-D is going to be THAT good in order to justify you selling great lenses in order to buy it.

A good lens will always be a good lens.
A body on the contrary is outdated within a year.

I would not sell those lenses.
A G3 with a quality lens will be better than an OM-D with a kitlens.

Since when was it called the E-M1? I'd wait until it comes out to decide whether or not you're going to get it.

If the om d has a new sensor it might be worth it BUT....dont sell the 20mm. do whatever it takes except sell that 20. Theres not ONE single person Ive met that hast sold the 20 and at some point regretted it. Think about how incredibly sexy the OM D will look with the 20 pancake attached, and how good the photos are gonna be.

I cannot vote because I want a G3, and that taints a vote from me with anterior motives... ;)

@ Lisandra; I do not regret selling my 20/1.7, it's a fine lens but it never held a spell over me.

M-5, whatever decision you make, it will be the correct one.

After the most recent rumor, I'm actually considering keeping my e-p1 and investing in lens (possibly to include the Oly 45mm and the Panny 14mm & 20mm).  So I have to agree with those who say keep the G3 and the lenses.

The gx1 sensor is plenty good, the em 5 is gonna be one of those cameras you don't sell for years if ever, but... If you don't need it and the sacrifice will be too great the g3 will serve you fine.

I will have to see the size, If the EM-5 is better in control placement, and has enough girth that my fingers don't feel cramped holding the camera, in fear of activating buttons while taking pictures. Then I may go for it. That is the biggest problem with the G3 > my fingers are cramped holding the camera, and activate buttons while taking picture.. Mainly the ISO or FN1
Controls are JUST too close to where my thumb rests! Fn1, although Flush, doesn't take much pressure to activate it.
The G3 as far as IQ is great. The Body is just too small. Now that the MP is slowed down, the Miniaturization race is on!
Hopefully, the EM-5 will be sized and the controls spaced for the REAL hand, not a purse or large pocket!

So far the wideness is the same as the ep3, which isn't uncomfortable at all. Well have to.see about grip and thickness.
