Lens Shade Question
« on: December 18, 2011, 04:46:43 PM »
Can I use a lens shade made for a short Tele on a 50mm lens to only used on my G3?
Since will have an effective FOV of 100mm... I an guessing I am not using the whole image circle, and it should be just fine...
I ask because my Canon FL 50mm f/1.4 NEEDS a shade. The Coating really is useless for Color,

Of course you can. I assume you're referring to a shade for the popular 70-200 zoom. By the way, that's exactly what I am using on my Helios 44-M4 lens,
when mounted on m4/3. These are damn cheap on *bay, and come in a variety of lens threads to screw to.

Well, It is a 2 or 3" deep shade from china...
I found a rubber 58mm normal one in my junk past used parts for cameras.. it works, and is free... but, I still may get a deep shade... I just have to wait for a sunny day in Indiana... it had been like living on England, being so overcast and or foggy/rainy the past week  ???

I use with satisfaction on my Zuiko 40mm for Pen F the metal hood dedicated to the 100 mm

I'd prefer a hood for prime tele lens, not a petal hood for zoom.
You can find foldable rubber hoods 3 in 1 for wide, normal and tele lenses, useful if you have several lenses with the same filter thread, but I think the best is each lens has its hood.
