I don't really see a need for a Camera "app" for my ipod but maybe an ipad or tablet device in the future perhaps.

This wont happen for years. If it does it wont be user installed apps. That said, a photo sharing app would be cool. Or at least a way to post a photo online from the camera with no cables. But then again that would probably include a data plan at like 60$ a month and no.
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

I would like to see Open Source apps primarily.

If it was ever implemented...

A PS lite to use your camera to shoot/process without moving the images of the SD card....
With the ability to make a new folder on the SD card for the edited files.

And a 6" 2nd LCD that connects to the camera for the editing window.

Having in mind that cameras now have more processing power than netbooks/tablets, although very specialized, it would also be nice for cameras to have emergency connections for keyboards/touchpads and WWW connectivity, for quick email check and/or surfing E-P1.net while waiting for the model to get undressed  ;)

Yes BUT, processing power alone wont do it, RAM comes to mind, as well as onboard memory and it would probably cause the camera to overheat, crash and the battery wont last beyond 10 minutes

A stitching and HDR app would probably be the most popular.

For me it's the look and the Pinhole art filter that made me buy my E-P1 and the Cross process art fileter made me buy my E-P2. I just wish I could apply more than one art filters in a picture

This type of idea is near identical to Minolta's Creative Expansion cards and Canons Barcodes (found on EOS 100).
The system in todays camera seem redundant, since for both the Canon and Minolta programs it was used to give the camera more features it couldn't fit in the body.
Thou, on a new PEN user added filters you put in a folder on your SD cards could be fun (much like how filters and brushes are programmed for Photoshop).

But the question is if these "apps" would be user programable or if only Olympus/Panasonic would be the only one with specs for how to build them (thus the only supplier of these "apps").

I know I would try to develop a user programable modes (like C1, C2 and C3 on Canon EOS 5D Mk II).
