'Wild, Wild, Wild, Theory...'
« on: November 10, 2011, 06:00:04 PM »
Just thinking....
I wonder if the price of ALL small Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Cameras can be traced to Olympus trying to make up for their losses........

1) Remember the price of the E-P1 when it was first released? - Rather steep.....& let's not forget the introductory price of the E-P2.

-I wonder if Olympus priced these so high in order to make-up as much profit as possible to the lost profits?

After Olympus effectively "baselined" MILC price, others followed suit (Panasonic, Sony, Samsung, Nikon)......

Just a wild theory.....

That's actually not a bad theory, considering the prices still being much higher than one should expect.

Probably the most important thing to take away from the Olympus scandal (which is still unfolding) is that there is absolutely no reliable information on whether Olympus is making or losing money (and how much). My theory is that this principle can be applied to all of the camera makers in Asia.

I think the prices it also reflect the substantial deterioration of the $ vs the Yen over the last 2 years. Low 90s to high 70s.

Not so sure about this.
All one has to do is look at the sheer number of Canons that there are in the wild......

I'm waiting for the Zeiss buyout.  I'm sure Zeiss wouldn't mind buying out one of its biggest competitors in the medical industry.  Although, Fujifilm might rescue Olympus to keep the company Japanese.  A Zeiss Ikon m43 would be super cool.
