Olympus PEN EP1 (E-P1) LCD and body replacement
« on: May 30, 2011, 02:06:19 PM »
I dropped my EP1 on the driveway getting out of the car with it on my lap. The first part of the camera to absorb the impact was the front right corner of the bottom of the camera when viewed from the angle of looking at the LCD, then the camera must have rotated onto the LCD screen, denting the metal frame around it and cracking the LCD. The screen is cracked and needs to be replaced and the bottom right front corner of the camera is dented in. I'd like to replace these things myself and I'm just trying to find any webpage or pdf that might show someone else's disassembly, with pictures, explanations, any sort of info. Also if anyone knows of model numbers of the parts (bottom metal, lcd and lcd metal frame) that would be really helpful. I'm good with repairing electronics but I can't find parts. LCD's for most cameras can be had on ebay for 15-45 dollars but I can find nothing for the ep1. Thank you in advance for helping me return my beautiful camera to it's previous condition. The pit in my stomach is like a light absorbing black hole.
Josh

Can you take a photo of the damage with a camera phone or something? It might not be as bad as you think. I don't personally know the part numbers off hand, but if you take some of the screws off in that area (remember to organize them very carefully) the plates should be labeled.

You may have more luck buying a second hand E-P1 and keeping the broken one for spares.
As for service manuals or parts, I have not seen any in the Internet, Oly seem to be very good in keeping their secrets.
