Manual focus on G1
« on: January 04, 2011, 11:00:13 AM »
I am considering the purchase of a G1 to use with my manual focus lenses...  I was wondering if anyone could share their experiences with the G1's EVF in regards to focusing.  Thanks!

Quite simply - great.

I have been using a G1 for 6 or 7 months with a variety of MF glass and it has never let me down. Quite often I don't even need to use magnification although it is handy just to check. It's not quite as sharp as the VF2 on my EP but certainly more than enough - and you don't have to keep slotting it in place  8)

In low light it suffers but this is not unusual for an EVF system (rather than optical)

could you be specific regarding "low light"  Is 1/40th at F2.8, ISO 1250 considered low light?  The reason I ask is that I often shoot indoors and that seems to be a common setting on my ep1

don't shoot much indoors or outside at night (with street lights) but when I have, the noise in the EVF makes it harder to focus - not impossible, just harder

yep, thats low light.
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

Definitely one area where the Oly VF2 excels.....much clearer for indoor shooting than what I'm used to with the GI.

Very Easy to use...with my older eyes I use the Magnifier.
A plus with the Panasonic's, the EVF will get brighter as you close down the lens.
That means at f/8 or f/11 or whatever, the VF stays bright to focus.
I had the opportunity to use a E410 over the holidays. OMG... it was like looking though a dark tunnel. How VF's have changed over the years.
