If I buy a non-panasonic lens for my camera, will it still go on?

I'm new to photography so excuse me if this is a dumb question ha ha but I have a Panasonic Lumix GH-1 DSLR camera and want to get a 50mm 2.8 or 1.8 lens for it. I've searched and can't find one from Panasonic, so found one from canon.

Will it still go on my Lumix?
Also, if that is not a great choice, do you have any suggestions? I don't really want to spend more than $200 for this lens.

More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...
