Which is faster?

Which is faster?

1. Oly 17mm on a Panasonic body (G1, GF1, etc.)

2. Panny 20mm on an e-p1

In essence, I'm wondering if m4/3rds AF performance is based more on the camera or the lens...

both lens and camera. Panny bodies are faster, but two different lenses will focus at different speeds even using the same body.

Lisandra,
Are you talking the focus motor, or auto-focus acquisition system?

ok, for instance, the 20mm was faster on the GH1 than on the pen, but the 14-140 was faster than the 20mm regardless of camera

Hmmm...
Still doesn't appear to state which body has the faster auto focusing acquisition system....Is there any data for example how many cross type sensors are available in the bodies?

I think sensor readout plays a big part here

Boy, and I thought I was asking a pretty simple question...   :o

I just purchased a Panasonic G1 and I'll be trying out my 17mm on it.  I guess I will have to see when it comes in.  I'm going to hang onto the e-p1 for a bit to see if the G1 works for me, and whether or not I'll keep the 17mm or pay the extra for the 20mm.

The 20mm is a faster autofocusing lens either way.

The video is in spanish BUT, 3 minutes into it it compares focusing speed between the new 14-42 and the old and the panny14-42
