What £70 for a bit of plastic
« on: December 27, 2010, 03:18:26 PM »
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Toy-Lens-26mm-f-1-4-lens-GF1-GF2-GH2-EP1-EP2-EPL1-/260712622425?pt=Camera_Lenses&hash=item3cb3aee959#ht_1586wt_1141
For the same I could get an EF or Nikon adaptor and a holga lens plus a C mount and a C mount lens. This looks to be way over priced anyone else agree?

From the sample images elsewhere, you could get the ubiquitous C-mount 25mm f/1.4 with adapter for a similar or lower price and have a similarly bad image :)

I saw no samples, but if it's well made (at least a Planar knock-off) it would come in handy.

Thank you. It has a distracting bokeh (the one that makes you throw up).
I guess it is exactly the same CCTV lens with a different barrel and mount.

there is a review on Huff Photo, its sort of annoying as it gives quite nice results. But I just don't think it is worth the money, now Im going to get an Ef adaptor so I can use a lens baby on the g1.

Hello friends. I just got this lens and i have to say i like it a lot. Its very small and light and gives a nice blurr to your photos.
Stop whining about blur or weird bokeh. Its a toy lens for those who like the effect a toy lens will give. I think this lens is worth the small money it cost and it WILL give some cool results. Here are some of my pics i just took today/yesterday!

Nice pics, I really like the rats in their cage...Almost looks like a Polaroid with those cool retro colors. I can't wait 'til mine shows up!

It could be the most fun you could have with 70$. Wait...um...with a camera I mean.
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

I do like it, and I suppose you get what you get when you spend that much. Why not?

i sawthe flickr set and im revising my opinion of this lens.... it is capable of creating striking images in the right hands , i just wish it was 50 bucks. the soft edge is useful for certain situiations

Im interested though is it a 25mm c mount lens with some bits of plastic? If so you could get the effect for $35 ish. The 25mm 1.4 is dead common on the bay.

Externally to me it does look like a C-mount 25mm f/1.4 with coloured plastic bits over the body, and a fixed dedicated mount. And from what little I tried of the C-mount lens, the quality feels similar too.

Now, if you got the C-mount lens, while it is cheaper, you would still need an adapter too if you don't already have one.
