Ia anyone using a stepping ring with the kit 14-42 zoom? Does it interfere with retraction of the lens in the stored position? What size did you choose - to optimise comaptibilty with other lenses, or another reason?

Going to move this to lenses.

Anyways, because the filters fit on the inside of the barrel, I don't see why it would interfere with the retraction of the lens. I have personally not tried it however.

I'm sure it's possible, but i'm just going to repeat what has been said to me once: putting anything other than a single filter on the front of the oly 14-42 kit lens will probably damage or destroy its AF motor (with it being front-focussing and all)

I have a stepping ring that ups it from 40.5 to 49mm but I already had some filters that size. You can get away with a single filter but much more than that puts a lot of stress on the AF motor.

Some have successully mounted light lens hoods. I haven't. The lens is excellent with regard to flare so there is little need to do so anyway.
