More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

Everytime someone says this,
I always wonder what kind of in-camera sharpness settings were used along with post-processing sharpness....

(Sorry, but shooting lately with film has really let me know what's a sharp lens & what isn't)  :D

its easy to spot, oversharpening in software equals halos and not real detail

for all my disappointment at the lens speed [id be less at issue with even 5.6 at the long end] i must say it looks very good optically.

at macro settings  f  8\ 11 \ 16  are the rule but for non macro who is this lens for?

After we both disregarded this lens in a previous thread, after seeing this thread, I'm simply blown away. Still hard to say whether I'd get it or not, but if it were in the 200 range, quite possibly.

One can still extend sharpening in-camera & during post-processing without over sharpening....thus masking some of the inefficiences of the lens... ;)

The "reality of sharpness" of certain lenses hit me when I put them on my film bodies vice my digital ones.......This is why in part, some of the old manual film lenses are so highly sought after today.... :)

So if you compare the M. Zuiko 75-300 with the Panasonic 100-300, something tells me that a Panasonic weather sealed power zoom with IS would be a much larger lens than what Olympus has here.... :)

You are all going to like this !

http://robinwong.blogspot.com/2011/12/olympus-mzuiko-12-50mm-f35-63-review.html

read his review a day or two ago and i'm always blown away by what robin can do with any lens. i sometimes wonder if we're using the same lens or camera.  his photos are just outstanding.  i doubt i'll buy the lens, i don't really need it, but if it came with a weather sealed camera i was interested in purchasing, i'd snatch it up. robin somehow makes a "slow" lens looks good.  i want to develop his skills and know how.  i don't get results like his with anything.  :'( maybe his subject are more interesting than mine.  ;D
happily photographing within my camera's limitations
