Prime v 14-45
« on: July 31, 2011, 12:42:28 AM »
Looking for a little advice, I own an EP1 with the 17mm pancake and its a really nice focal length if at times I wish it was a little faster, although I guess in low light its easy enough to use a tripod!
I'm adding a cheap used G1 to my kit for its EVF (for when its bright and cheaper than an VF2 + compatible body)

I've been finding I'm mainly using two adapted Canon FD lenses the 50 f1.8 and 24mm f2.8 just now, however I'd like to add another native lens and I'm a bit conflicted, part of me wants to go for the 20mm as its very small and very quick, however its also very pricey. The 14mm which is not much faster than my 17mm but is much wider, also contemplated the 14-45 as its fairly cheap used would cover all lengths and also would give me a stabilised lens on my G1 although as I said I'm intending really to use that as a backup for manual lenses.

I guess I'm wondering if I have the 17mm already... do I really need the 14mm / 20mm......

a lens i really love is the pentax 110  18mm 2.8 [no diaphram].... its very inexpensive , the adapter is cheap

its a lovely tiny lens , i have the 17 mm too but rarely use it
but the 18 , i do ..... its a pleasure to use

the 20 , is fast and sharp , but not really my fav focal length
in fact, when i get the 25 1.4 ill prob sell it

@ I have the 20mm and de kitlens :
20mm : very fast for low light and very sharp, but sometimes not wide enough and too wide for portraits and is expensive
Kitlens : Covers most important focal lenghts, 14mm is rather wide, but sometimes too slow indoors.
I think it depends of what you need. Low light or zoom ?

@ cosinaphile :  Is the Pentax 110  18mm as wide as a native M4/3 lens of 18mm ?

The Pentax 110 is an 18mm as any 18mm on any format... the difference is the image circle. The Pentax 110 frame size is very close to a m4/3 in size.. It will be a 36mm on your m4/3 and f/2.8 only (the iris was the in the 110 camera).

We have some samples of Pentax 110 lenses in our Lens Sample Index....
