Thanks! This is the first time I've seen MF in action. Looks easy enough, but it there any way to set the camera up to minimise button presses when zooming in to check focus?

oh just stay in the green rectangle mode.. you can adjust shutter speed there.. if you are on M mode so all you have to do actually is to just stay in that mode... when you use the manual focus lens. and since the aperture is contorlled by the lens itself.. you have perfect control of everything.. when you wanna zoom up just press ok .. zoom out press ok.. its only 1 button :D

i was using A mode here.. and all i do is just adjust the EV..  in a mode.. so there you have it. :D

@mijonju: Thanks for a great video. This is great service for noobs like me.

@voyager: can we create a separate section where videos like this are placed and call it, say, "How Tos of the E-P1"?

I have a question with MF lenses, when you stop down the aperture ring, does the aperture blade stay at wide open or does it close up?

ill give you a simple short one here first.. yes the aperture blade will close and open then you turn them... after you have them on the adapter.. if you wanna test them without the adapter . there is a button located on the lens.. one for detaching the lens one for the aperture blades

So I guess it's the same with any MF to digital adapter then...  Thanks.

mijonju,

Is there a way to soom in to check the focus while shooting video?  This would be a nice feature, if it doesn't exist alread.

shooting with manual lens is great if your subject is stationary .. shooting moving subjects will be challenging.

Yeah, I tried it too with no luck.  I think this should be a firmware upgrade item.  I think MF for video is a must to get good results.  It would be nice to have a corner of the video screen dedicated for focus where you specify the green light.

Hi mijonju, great video! Thanks for sharing it.

I couldn't see really clearly, but if you have the time could you try shooting a video of the EP-1's LCD in manual focus mode in low light (say dim bedroom or kitchen). I'd like to see at what light levels does the EP-1's LCD become non-optimal for manual focusing.

Thanks!

Hi,

thanks for the video, it is very useful.

It looks pretty handy to manual focus with the camera on tripod, but what about handheld ? I intend to use the ep-1 for street photo so tripod is not the best way to keep low profile... ;)

I assume Is is from great help for manual focusing but Does the IS function always on during manual focus or do you have to swith it on manually ?

Regards,

nicolas

actually i didnt wanted to use a tripod.. but you can imagine my scenario.. i was holding another camera and film another camera. so i need someone or something to hold the camera that i am filming..
so i used a tripod. (i was alone  :'() anyway once you got the magnified focal length right.. just stand and not move your hand back and forth.. you should be able to get super fine photos..

Man, I wonder how all those years, people were able to focus moving subjects without AF. ;-)

Actually, when you shoot action with MF, you have strategies. One is to prefocus on a spot, and wait for the action to come. The other is to follow-focus, which is like continuous AF. I used to shoot for my school newspaper in high school in the late 70s and early 80s. I shot football, basketball and soccer, as well as the usual high school antics. These techniques served me well--clear up until 2004, when I got my first digital camera. :-)
