http://43rumors.com/ft4-panasonic-will-make-a-new-25mm-microfourthirds-lens-f1-4-or-faster/

The following rumor comes from two very good sources! They told us that Panasonic will launch new prime lenses in Q4 of this year (after Photokina) and Q1 of 2011. One of those lenses will certainly be the MicroFourThirds version of the current Panasonic/Leica 25mm f/1.4 FourThirds Lens (click here to see that lens on amazon)!
But there will be a difference…one of our source told us that Panasonic will make that lens even faster! Not by much but Panasonic has understood that fast primes are what people is looking for. I expect Panasonic to release a new lens roadmap at Photokina (September). But we hope to give you more details about the 25mm and other prme lenses before September!

It would be possible to make it faster, of course, since the current design in a retrofocus one. A Double Gauss design of the same focal length and the lower Flange-back distance could indeed be faster.

I would rather see a pancake though with a slightly larger aperture. But since Micro Four Thirds has no really fast lenses, might as well make this one the first.

It will be a pancake, most probably slightly larger than the current pancakes. The 4/3 lens is massive because it is a retrofocus design.

I see. I think Pentax is the only really major brand that has managed a pancake that is that fast.

If you are reffering to Pentax SMC 40mm F/2.8 DA Limited, it's not that fast.

No, the 77mm f/1.8 Limited. I suppose it's not quite a pancake though.

While I would hope it is a pancake, I'm not sure that will be the case. Even if retrofocus shouldn't be required now, faster lenses tend to be more complicated for optical correction that becomes harder in that case.

If they make it faster than f/1.4, I'd happily take it if it was, say, the same size as the Oly kit zoom in storage position. At f/1.4 or slower I'd hope more for a pancake.

I'm more concerned about the price as the aperture gets bigger...

All I wan't is a 35 mm f/1.4 or 1.8 with decent to good optics. I loved my Nikon 35 mm f/1.8 and could kill for one with AF on my E-PL1.

I'm not holding out much hope if the words "Leica" and "1.4" appear in the same sentence....  :(

Still, seeing more fast primes come out is a good sign.

I totally agree. We shall finally have a system, not just two camera bodies and three lenses.
