Good for Panasonic! They seem very dedicated to Micro Four Thirds. I should reward them by switching to their cameras one day. Interesting that they'd publicly announce lenses only "under consideration". That would sure raise expectations... (But a 25mm f/1.4...wow!)

Gimme gimme gimme.....(I'm not going to buy any of them)

Apart from the range, the Pany lenses do feel better built and look classier that the Oly's.

I have an E-P1 and a GI body and have stopped thinking about which I prefer - they are two different cameras with different moods and as I got both cheap I have no reason to give up either...

As for the lenses though, Panasonic would have the edge on my wish list.

That's for sure. Using my rule of thumb, the f/1.4 is about 3/4 of a stop faster than the 20mm, meaning it'll probably be about 75% more expensive than the 20mm, mark my words...  :-\

so right now that would be around 600$, which is around 150-200 more than I would like.
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

Yep. Which means it'll probably be pushing $750 - $800 in Canada, which pushes it from "Wow!" to "Omigod" territory.  :(

Yes...Panasonic is starting to spank Olympus here...
IMHO, Olympus only has 2 lenses....9-18 & 14-150...

Why don't you like the kit lens?

The kit lens is just viewed by people as something to get you going until you can afford something better. They're usually too slow (at the long end) and not very sharp (at the long end). But kudos to Olympus for at least trying to design a desirable kit zoom for the PEN: tiny when collapsed, decent fit, finish, and feel; good image quality. I play around with some of the other kit zooms when I'm in the electronic megastores and am horrified at the extremely cheap look and feel and touch of some of the other kit zooms (esp. from Canon).

agreed with above comments, I thought the quality and finish of the oly kit-lens were mediocre compared to old vintage manual lenses, but jeez I was shocked when a mate of mine showed me his 1st dslr, the sony A500! I'm not a camera expert and don't spend my days fiddling gear, but I can honestly say it felt like a cheap plastic toy, nothing more..
Anyway if panasonic was to release a fast 25mm 1.4 in a near future, i would def. strongly consider it.
20mm is too wide and 1.7 way to slow...
