OM Zuiko 135mm f3.5
« on: October 01, 2009, 09:32:37 AM »
Anyone tried this lens on the E-P1? Just bought one on ebay because it's so cheap! (£15) I guess it'll be good for gigs and events.

It's OK, even wide open. Hand-held manual focusing using the zoom screen is nearly impossible due to the long focal length.

Looks heavy. Does it balance well with the E-P1?

I have the E-P1, Olympus adapter and OM 135mm f3.5 combo. Focusing hand-held is impossible. This is strictly tripod territory. Using the LCD enlargement thingy makes matters worse because it amplifies the slightest hand movement. It all balances well enough and feels OK in the hand, and the OM lenses are so smooth mechanically that it is a seductive combination, but it is hard work.

How is hand hold focusing impossible? I've used lenses that go into 300mm territory before, and haven't had a problem with it.

Using the manual focus zoom, a 300mm becomes a 2100mm or even 3000mm at 10x...
This will cause an object you are trying to focus at to leave the LCD when you move the camera only a few degrees.

Just got 135mm F/2.8!
Great lens. Too bad that the bayonet mount is broken :/ It doesn't lock to body. Most likely that little spring pushing the locking piece is either broken or misalligned... I don't really want to mess my new objective so I have to find a doctor for her :(

I got mine too, it's nice but i haven't found much use for a 270mm equivalent yet! using it on my OM-10 for now ;D

I find my OM 135mm f/2.8 to be just perfect for that discreet, handheld shot in places where you just shouldn't be messing around with a decent camera...
