Nikon F Mount Adapter
« on: September 16, 2009, 09:46:18 AM »
Received my Nikon F mount to m4/3 adapter today. I've ordered it from "RJ camera accessory store" at ebay (jinfinance). Shipping (which was free of charge) has taken one week only :) So I'm glad now to enhance my E-P1 by using my Nikon lenses. The item looks good and I'm looking forward to share some pictures taken with my Nikkor lenses.

Hint: check up the lens release button BEFORE you mount your first lens (it does not work the "usual" way and you can't study the mechanism after you have mounted a lens to).

No, it's only a mechanical connector between the E-P1 (or any other m4/3 body) and any Nikon F mount lens (non G-types, since you wouldn't be able to set the aperture without an aperture ring at the lens). I don't expect any Nikon F to m4/3 adapter supporting AF and aperture coupling as long as Nikon does not produce m4/3 bodies them self.

I've tried the 35mm f2 and 50 f1.4 so far. Longer lenses are quite difficult to focus manually (to hard to keep the camera steady) without using a tripod.

Love to use the Micro Nikkor 2.8/105 mm too.

Here is a "wildlife" sample taken with this lens.

(Did anybody say that it is too difficult to focus manually using a lens longer than 50mm?)

Hi joebee,

I have the 35 f2 & 50 f1.8 along with a few older ai-s lenses 28 f2.8 & 105 f2.5. Any additional advice on using nikkors with the f adapter? Infinity focus o.k.?

Thanks,
Jack

the first lens i modified for the ep-1 was a nikkor H 50 2.0 then i was inspired to buy some good manual focus glass , i never imagined the ep-1 would lead me in that direction,at about 100 mm equiv its the perfect fast portrait lens

does the adapter focus slightly "past" infinity or is it exactly at infinity?

I have the 35 f2 & 50 f1.8 along with a few older ai-s lenses 28 f2.8 & 105 f2.5.

I'm using the AF 50 f1.8 more often with the E-P1 than the AF 50 f1.4 because it is lighter (which is better when you holding the camera only but not the lens). I like the 105 f2.8 (AF Micro) too but it's quite huge for the E-P1. Don't use wider Nikon lenses anymore (only use the M.Zuiko Digital 17mm). The E-P1, the 17mm and the two Nikon lenses (50mm and the 105mm) together with the adapter have nearly the same weight as a Nikon D200 with the AF-S 18-200mm. I would not carry more than then the E-P1, the 17mm and one(!) Nikon lens with me. Using more than one Nikon lens makes the kit heavy and changing lenses becomes cumbersome with only one lens adapter (you can bet on that the adapter will be attached to the wrong lens when you want to attach another).

The RJ adapter is fine (I've the "old" type, the new one shown at ebay looks a little bit different than mine) as long as the lens have an aperture ring. http://www.novoflex.com/de/produkte/objektiv-adapter/fuer-microfourthirds/ has an adapter which allows aperture control with G type lenses. But it's much more expensive.

I bought a Nikon F adapter since I have Nikon lenses but I would definitely prefer a "smaller" solution. Either a small(!) 35mm f2 or 50mm f2 m4/3 prime would be great.

IMHO: the Nikon 35 f2 or the 50 f1.8 provides better optical performance than the Voigtlander 40 f1.4 but I'm still fancy to get such a lens because it's so small (and maybe I will change my mind about it's performance if I get know this lens personally). Or an adapter to use Contax G lenses with the E-P1 - wow, that would be amazing!

i have a g 1 and 45 f2 zeiss , it wiould be great to use that lens but you would have to invent a cam or gear to spin the focus connector rod  to focus it , not easy stuff

the 45 f2 zeiss contax g  is one of the sharpest and  and best contrast balanced lens i have ever used, my gi died but i keep it as a lovely paperweight

Or maybe I'm just more familiar with the look of the pictures taken with the Nikkors than with the CV 40 f1.4 (don't want to affront anybody).

Yeah, the chance to get an adapter is probably very little (but a I guess it would be possible to add a wheel to the adapter which shift the focus screw).

The Contax G lenses have another advantage over the Leica M mount lenses. The minimum focus distance of 0.5m vs. 0.7m.

And the Nikon lenses are even better in this discipline. The 50mm focus close to 0.45m, the 105mm to 0.3m, and the 35mm to 0.25m.

Just saw that "RJ camera accessory store" at ebay (jinfinance) offers a m4/3 adapter for Nikon G lenses too. This means that the adapter supports aperture control.
