If I remember the price, I got it for about $290 + adaptor cost (which the guy selling the lens had).

Can we get more pics of the bokeh? Are the shots above taken at wide open (f1.4)?
Also, how much did you have to pay for the adapter? Thanks!

edit: also I'm a little confused... The Pen F is "half frame" film size, right? So does the 40mm stays at 40mm since the E-P1 sensor is also half? Or does it become 80mm? (my brain doesn't work right today...)

40mm is always 40mm whatever sensor size you have, being a 1/3" ultracompact or a 3 sq feet ultralarge format. Why everybody is always asking this question? Grrrrr!

In general, the angle of view (and size, and vignetting and other optical characteristics) might not match with the size of the sensor, but in this case it does.

Use the Pen 40mm yields the equivalent FOV (field of view) as an 80mm lens on full frame.

These photos have so inspired me of the capabilities of this pairing that I recently purchased a few Pen F lenses to use with my future E-P1.

I managed to come across a 38/1.8, 40/1.4, 25/2.8, and 100/3.5. I can't wait to get the E-P1 to try them out, but unfortunately have to be a bit more patient with the funds (and to see if all these EVF rumors pan out in the next few weeks), but I couldn't pass up the find I made on these lenses!

BTW - in case you can't infer, great photos!

I have seen a couple different ones on eBay that are listed as working with the Panasonic's, but it also says it works with the E-P1, too.

Nice shots. The lens looks real good on the E-P1, but I am sad to say that the TAIWAN adaper is really ugly

Looks like these lenses now are quite expensive, the vultures on Ebay knows we are looking for them.

The e-bay flippers are only shooting themselves in the foot with their bloated prices. I bid on an 40m f1.2 a while ago, the price was down at $250, but at the last second I was outbid and it sold for $500. A couple weeks later, I saw the same lens back on e-bay. The seller's don't want to set a reserve to scare away bidders, but in reality there is a price they will only sell at. If that price is not met, they use another account to out bid the highest bidder. As soon as Panny and Oly release faster primes, the prices will drop down to normal. Next time I go to Japan, I'm definitely buying a few vintage Pen lenses at their appropriate price.

Hello!

I just want to share with you my experience with the old Pen lenses on the new E-P1.
In the late eighties my father gave me his Pen FT which was 20 years old, I kept shooting with that camera for some years until I moved to an automatic reflex, then analog medium format, then digital and then everything mixed up

Two years ago I rediscovered my old the Pen FT, it was pocketable, beautiful and I could take it almost anywhere. Besides the 38mm f1.8 that came with the camera I bought couple of lenses (which were not as overpriced as now): the 40mm f1.4 and the 25mm f2.8, as well as an original carrying case for the Olympus Pen F.

I got the E-P1 as a present this Christmas and just received the adapter for the old pen lenses one week ago. I must say I'm impressed though I haven't shot many pictures. Bokeh is beautiful, images are, IMHO, sharper than the ones produced by the 14-42, and the lenses fit the camera just perfectly; they seem made for it

I think the 38mm is sharper than the 40mm but I couldn't say for sure. Here you have a gallery with some shots. The first one was taken with the 38mm, the other ones with the 40mm. There's also a 100% crop of several pictures taken with different apertures. I'll update with more shots later, which I hope are more "artistic" than these ones

which were just sample shots.

Adorable legacy your father left for you.
In this electronic era, I am not sure whether my kids will treasure what I have now for shooting when they grow up.

Please show us your other lens collection and the fitting case for digital PEN when you have time.
