Manufacturing origin of your m.Zuiko lenses?
« on: July 26, 2011, 02:35:46 AM »
I was looking at the 40-150mm that is on sale for QVC and it said "Made in China", so are all Micro Four Thirds lenses made in China?

Well,if you dont know,I certainly dont, and LMGTFY was no help. I looked at my epl2 body and 14-40 and it says nothing.
I was about to order from QVC for the first time until they tacked on sales tax. They are not in my state, but claim the state requires them to do so.When I asked what states they do not charge sales tax,the affirmative-action sup said "none".This actually violates a Supreme Court decision, and no other company that I have encountered does this.

I will never buy anything from QVC.

Panasonic Direct also adds state tax to out of state purchases..
I wander is if it has to do with the "Type" of sales marketing they register under?

Or it could be state law that was never challenged in a Federal Court.

For some reason I think you're in Illinois? If you are, then yes it's a state law.

OH yeah... If a company has a warehouse in a state...  it can charge tax if you have it shipped to that state.  Like above link shares.

On the box of my M. Zuiko 9-18mm it says made in China.
My combo box for the MMF-2 adapter and Zuiko 40-150mm says made in China.
Both my E-PL1 and E-P2 are also made in China.
Also, the box for the VF-2 which I bought in Japan says made in China.
Maybe the "high grade" and "super high grade" lenses from Olympus are made in Japan like the one Cosinaphile has.
This reminds me of when my friend pointed out some funny printing on a box where it looked like it said "Japan made in China".

I thought all Japanese were 'made in China', originally, - years ago, though, - sort of?   :)

Could not find country of origin on the lens barrel of mine. Will have to check the box when I find it, but I guess it is the same as the camera body - Made in China.

I believe virtually all the Olympus m4/3 stuff is made in China now (with the possible exception of the 45mm). All mine is. "Made in Japan" is very rare nowadays.

(As an aside, I like to recount this story a high teacher once told us many years ago, back when "Made in Japan" = junk. To combat their poor image, the ever clever Japanese decided to create an industrial town called "Usa" so that they could stamp their stuff "Made in Usa". Of course, the Americans quickly caught on and forced them to say "Made in Usa, Japan". I don't know whether this story is apocryphal, but it's always good for a laugh when I tell it.  :))
