Lens too cheap???
« on: November 18, 2009, 07:49:29 PM »
Hi guys, what do you think about this lens, Minolta MD 50mm 1.7. I found it on ebay for around $20, seem too cheap, the adapter for the lens cost 3 times that.

Nah, that's about right.  I bought my 50mm F1.4 for $50 and 135mm F2.8 for also $50.  The 50mm F1.2 is way expensive because it's considered collectors item.  Too bad Minolta doesn't have any fast old wide angles.

The 50mm f1.4 is great.  I like it much better than my Nikon AF f1.8, it's much easier to zone focus manually.  Check the Lenses section, there are a couple shots I took recently.  I was thinking about getting the Panny F1.7 20mm, but at low light you can't really auto-focus, and my kit Oly 14-42mm is wide enough for anything wide.  I might get the Nokton f1.2 35mm as a personal xmas present.  Bang for the buck, Minolta Rokkor lenses are the way to go, especially when you factor in the cost of the adapter.

almost any prime 50 will be very good from pentax minolta canon nikon voigtlander zeis leica cz jena konica etc

i just bouight a konica  hexenon AR 50 1.7 and its sharp as a tack with wonderful contrast and color

some  super fast 50s like a 1.2 might be a  little soft, if you are a do it yourselfer  you can use a lens cap to body cap converter for 5 to 10 bucks some washers and glue and permanantly adapt almost any given lens to m4\3 even putting in a recess for lock pin is possible

Not Olympus Zuiko OM? (Or do they fall under "etc."?) Seems like an odd oversight, considering the brand most associated with this forum. ;)

I bought a Minolta 1.4 50mm and paid $20. I love it. There is a guy selling RJ adapters on ebay that you can "Make Offer". He'll usually take half of what the other guys are selling them for. I got my Minolta adapter for $45, shipped. So then the adapter is only double the cost of the lens. Still a crime though.
