how to make a m 4\3 lens adapter for almost any lens on earth
« on: August 31, 2009, 03:19:39 PM »
its true,

to do it you will need to sacrifice  your ep-1 or g-1 bodycap , or purchase an extra one.
you will need  epoxy paste some cyanoacrylic glue [ crazy glue or similar type]some large leather washers of correct size the lens to be adapted and a rear lens cap or section of plastic or metal pipe
of similar size to a rear lens cap, a dremel tool,or other method of cutting the caps

here is the concept;
from the body cap, you need to fashion a "ring" that will connect to the camera.the portion that actually touches the mount you dont cut you are basically reaming it out to allow an unimpeded  optical path.
its very important to carefully clean the parts your shaping fileing or dremeling of any plastic leavings or shards  prior to putting it anywhere near you cameras sensor.  i did this under running hot water and dried carefully before test fitting any of the cut parts
do the same thing to the rear lens cap , work neatly as you can, you want to end up with a hollow tube that connects to the back of the lens .at the end of ther project , when your adapter length is correct you can fix the lens and cap together with 3 small drops of crazy glue where they meet , dont get glue on the rear element !you just want a little on the flange to bodycap interface, this will be reversable, if you need to it will snap apart with a little careful force
the trickiest part is getting the lens to body distance correct this can be accomplished by setting the focus to infinity and holding the lens in front of the ep-1 while manual focus with 10 x magnification is set, mopve the lens back and forth till a sharp infinity focus is seen. measure this distance and make the total size of the adapter this , its better to err on the side of focusing "past; infinity rather than short of it ,

you may have to shorten the rear lens cap tube or build it up with washers.or similar method you may devise yourself. when my adapter was done i dressed it up with large washers from an auto parts store to make it look more sleek,  you can also use old filter rings etc black rubber bands  ,whatever suits your fancy there are no rules

when the distance is correct glue the body cap to the rear lens cap, use crazy glue and work carefully on a flay surface so glue does not get inside the lens

the last step is to test mount the lens and note where on your "adapter" the lock pin for the mount is. place some epoxy paste in the hollow part in the body cap,[ not the hole for the optical path!!] and neatly flatten it so , when its dry you have a smooth flat to flat surface near the lock pin , lined up on the ep-1s body. dont mount this on the ep-1 until  dry and it is  shaped clean and flat and  free of any dirt!

now mount  the adapter \lens several times in sucession , you should see a lightly scratched path from the locking pin on the epoxy paste   , using it as a guide drill a small hole to accept an engaged locking pin.  a recess for the pin to snap in to so when mounted you lens will not fall off!listen carefully for a barely audible click that confirms the lock pin can be engaged

whew!

photo descriptions

1st  close up of the channel -like recess running the perimeter of the ep-1  body cap carefully filled with epoxy paste but leveled to not create any bump that would impede the mounting on the camera. once fille hardened and shaped flat [ easier to shape with a razor blade etc when freshly set but not fully cured] a small hole is drilled
to accept the cameras locking pin

2nd   shows the nikon 50  f2 nikkor h  the lens cap some spacer elements like leather washer  and empty filter ring
and some large "washers" from auto parts cache to dress up the finished assembly  the washers are askew and not in position to make them easier to distinguish from the other componants

3rd the custom mount lens with washers in place , for a better picture of the finished lens on the ep-1 see the photo in "other pics" in the gallery. it`s the one with the lime green backround posted quite a while ago

It would be nice, Voyager, if you could sticky this thread. It ought to be seen! I somehow missed this thread earlier, and only because the OP mentioned it in another thread did I discover it! Please sticky!

This is so awesome!
Please provide more details and photos.
Names which explain the photos above would be helpful too.
Will be attempting this with the Pentax 110 50 soon...

Thanks!
