first shots with the olympus 12mm f2 lens on the e-p1
« on: July 21, 2011, 11:00:26 PM »
i am tremendously impressed with this lens , its tack sharpness, solid color and contrast , it superb damped manual focus action and 90 degree turn makes focus by wire seem a distant bsad dream

the af is quite fast  on the ep1 but seems to focus past what i wished to be in focus... not always , it was dark out, will check out in daytime .
however....its snappy ....[ pun intended]...... ill have to test further

fit and finish are a dream..... its solid metal dense but not too heavy....all marking are engraved
this is how all lenses should be made....olympus deserves an award for this gem...
splurged on a b&w filter to protect this baby digital filter in silver

together its stunning on the ep1 ... much smaller than i thought it would be
taxi is af ed thru a plate glass window
subway and diner shots were manually focused, smooth and natural
...every bit as satisifying and tactile as an old school legacy gem , to me  :)

2 shot of the lens shot w the pentax 110 18mm on the ep1

Congrats, cosinaphile! I hear you, loud and clear.  & I'm just all envy here.  This gem hasn't landed on these shores yet, and nobody are able to tell when it will.  You were able to find a B+W UV/Haze in silver (to fit the lens)?  Didn't even knew those existed.  Hey, be good to that baby, man, it's precious.

More samples! Personally I want something at minimum focusing distance at f4. I know that's not the lens purpose. I don't care.
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

Nice shots! I love how that ED lens element carries the sharpness to the corners/edges. I hope Oly ZD continues using ED lens elements with all their WA primes---something they hardly ever did in the OM days.

M-42 works well for me. I've been using some lenses in reverse too, the Pentax kit lens (18-55) being the shortest focal length so far, so I thought maybe that one will rock in terms of magnification....

I'm gonna start a separate thread about this soon, in order not to hijack yours.

I always thought this lens would make a great street/candid lens. Even without IS, one should be able to handhold it down to 1/15 seconds. As far as exposure values (EV) are concerned, this makes it functionally equivalent to a 17.5/1.4 lens! (That is to say, 17.5/1.4 at 1/30 has same EV as 12/2 at 1/15.)

J A P
