Fast walkaround and/or indoor lenses - What do you use?
« on: December 15, 2010, 02:04:23 AM »
a short chat with cosinaphile recently:

From some old post i believe you own (or have owned) the hexanon 57mm f 1.2, right?
I'm tempted to buy one, but at around 500 euro (700 dollar or something?) i'm not sure if it's worth it.
Do you use it a lot? Or do you find it too big & heavy so that you prefer the panny 20/1.7 or some fast c-mount at night?

its cool to have a good 57mm 1.2 and i use it time to time, when indoor flash is prohibited at events and museums  and when night shooting ...
its big but sits nicely on my ep1\gf1 buts its heavy any leaving it on the camera is not an option for a long time in walkabout "mode"

the 2 lenses with me almost always are the 20 mm 1.7panny and the 7-14 4.0 panny, also sometimes a 70 mm 2.8 pentax110 which i use as a great and tiny 140mm equiv mf prime....
if i dont have the pentax 110 70 mm then i substitute a contax g 50 f2 or 90 f 2.8 both superb

as great as the konica 57mm 1.2 is, i'd choose the panny 20 mm 1.7 for its compact size and incredile sharpness and cost, about 330.00 in the usa

this got me thinking about my own preferred walkaround kit. The set that's most often with me is
panny 20/1.7, angenieux 75/2.5, cinegon 10/1.8 (both cmount, the latter with a little bit of vignetting in 6x6 but with a lot of character).

What do you use?

youve turned an great pm question into a great post.....
i too wonder what the other forum member have to say about what they consider a everyday "kit".

that cinegon 10 1.8 sounds intriguingand wonderfully fast for a 20mm equiv !, id love to see it in action at 6x6... any links to the gallery?

btw cotillion, the contax g lens i mentioned is actually 45 mm, not 50mm as i erroniously stated in a pm, could you edit above so to reflect my mistake? thanks

Unfortunately my workflow is a mess right now (i'll spare you the details), so no entries in the gallery yet. I hope to put something online this weekend..
Here's a link: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/46259-REG/Schneider_21012849_Cinegon_10_mm_f_1_8.html
It looks really 'special' on the e-p1 ;)

ive been looking around for info on the 10 mm it seems there are several older variations but the late model you have is really a handsome lens... looks similar to some of the gorgeous late version zeiss rf lenses ive been checking out at adorama how much was it?   price is de-listed at b&h

you like the 75 2.5  angeneaux ive got 70 2.8 pentax 110 ,lol great minds think alike  are "kits" are pretty similar ........

The Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 if I want autofocus.

The Voigtlander 25mm f/0.95 if I don't need autofocus (which is most of the time).
Be nice to each other, life is too short for anything else.

Used to own a Voigtlander 50mm f/1.1, but traded it for a Zeiss 50mm f/1.5 C-Sonnar T*
Soooo

I have 3
for AF: 20mm f/1.7
MF: CV 28mm f/1.9 ASPH
MF: ZM 50mm f/1.5 C-Sonnar T*

But as walk about lens [read candid lens], I prefer MF so I preset the DOF, the 28mm at f/11 does quite fine. A bit long at times, but very usable.
I would like a nice 20mm-21mm, but, I'd want a SLR retro-focus design on an m4/3 body, with such a short FL.
