It was interesting to read this and to look inside both the Oly and Sony pancake lenses. In conclusion the mechanic, Roger Cicala, comments:
"The simplicity of the design shows why these lenses rarely break. And since optical adjustment isn't an option, apparently, there won't be a lot of reason for me to do this again. Which is too bad, really. It's a nice, straightforward disassembly, with a simple internal design."
It didn't seem as simple as an old mechanical lens, but maybe its simplicity is relative, by comparison to a modern zoom lens for example? Simplicity certainly doesn't mean elegance of design. There is very, very little glass. When he says that lenses rarely break down, I wonder about the tiny little focusing and aperture motors that his disassembly reveals. What is the life expectancy on these?
