EP1 Fisheye Help
« on: September 12, 2010, 05:41:35 PM »
Hello Everyone.

I have been searching around the internet and this forum, and have found many things that would probably help me, but as i am a total camera n00b i have probably just entirely bypassed them by accident. So I apologize in advance if this question has already been answered a thousand times, but I could really do with a hand figuring this out!

I am looking to get a fish eye lens, or a nice wide angle lens for my ep1, with an adapter or not. That is hopefully significantly cheaper than the Olympus ones, which are something like AUD$1200 which is a fair way out of my price range. I was hoping to find something that was around the AUD$300 - 500 range (if it needs an adapter then I would like this to be included in that price range)

Any help you guys can offer me on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance
:)

Not to worry, even if a question has been asked before, it's much easier for us to help someone out again, and we enjoy doing so!

Unfortunately for the price range that you are looking for, you are going to have to go with something that has an adapter, and unless you can find a normal Four Thirds lens that you could adapt to it with the Olympus or Panasonic adapter, it will be one that does not have autofocus. I would recommend first looking through our Lens Sample Photo Archive for anything that might stand out, and then possibly asking in the thread for a lens you are interested in where the person got the adapter, what it can do, etc.

Of course, there are also always those cheap Ebay style fisheye attachments, but they are of poor quality most of the time and product heavy vignetting, so unless you can deal with that, then I suppose those are out.

Here's a link to our Lens Sample Photo Archive:

Good luck!

After the recommendations of Voyager i would look at that important database (2 pages) : The Fish List.
You have to distinguish Circular and Full Frame rendering (Rectilinear), above 17MM, you have 18MM (a lot of brand) 19MM (Canon) 20MM, 21MM.

Antoine G, Rectilinear is no more a Fish-Eye. The Fish-eye itself is by definition non-rectilinear.

Kicks, If you have the 4/3 to m4/3 adapter, i would recommend a Samyang 8mm fish-eye for 4/3. It should be about $300 new.
Or just get about any used 8mm fish eye for a film or digital camera and you will have a full-frame (i.e. almost no vignetting, but not 180degrees view). A simple mechanical adapter should be very cheap too, so you should end paying no more than $200, I guess.

is the mmf1 adaptor the four thirds adaptor you are refering to?

also, do the panasonic micro 4/3s need an adaptor for use with the ep1 ?

eg. this lens

http://e-p1.net/lens-sample-photo-archive/lumix-7-14mm-f4-lens-samples/

It is a hell of a lot more expensive than I was looking to spend, but those sample shots make me think I should just fork out the extra cash and enjoy the quality...

Yes. For connecting a 4/3 lens to micro4/3 body.

No. It will work out-of-the-box.

The MMF-1 adapter will work, but you can also only spend half as much and get the Panasonic AF adapter from Micro Four Thirds to Four Thirds and only have to deal with the ugly gray color of it. Works exactly the same.

Yeah, some people get upset over that, but I think it's a very poor and unprofessional reaction. That's the quickest way to drive away your new members. We in this forum patiently answer all sorts of questions repeatedly, though there are some here who get a tad curt over those who ask (or repeat) the same thing within the same thread...  ;)

I don't know if anyone else saw the new lensbaby scout - sold with the fisheye optic ?  Just another option.
