Distortion with new Panasonic lenses on E-P1?
« on: September 02, 2009, 03:35:23 AM »
Hey all. A quick question, although I doubt answerable right now. Do you think there will be distortion correction when using the new Panasonic lenses on the E-P1? I'm thinking of the 17mm pancake I use currently - it has in camera distortion correction to compensate for its small size. I'm only guessing, but I figured the Panasonic 20mm pancake will have similar problems, and I'm sure the GF-1 will correct them. But will the E-P1 correct for them..?

Or, when someone try the 20 mm f1,7 (I want one as soon as possible) on the E-P1 and show us the RAw and the Jpg from the same picture.

Anyone know of a site with E-P1 + 20mm pancake samples? I have seen a picture of the lens mounted on the E-P1 (or at least photoshop-mounted), but no pics yet.

Maybe we have to wait till its release in the market to see this kind of comparisons, so i can wait a little...

Ah... I was under the impression some pre-release samples of the GF-1 and 20mm had been given out. Maybe it was wishful thinking to hope that an E-P1 addict had gotten hold of one ^^;

my read on this (to be honest, acquired through forum lecture and not own expertise in photography software): should be no issue. within the MFT standard, the parameters of "what to correct" are communicated from the lens to the body. As E-P1 body has shown that it can handle different types of "lens errors" (sorry for the simplistic term) with other Panasonic lenses, the bottleneck is what the lens is willing to tell. So as long as the new Pancake tells everything it ought to (which we should assume, because otherwise it wouldnt perform on the GF1), the E-P1 will be able to process this information.
