Convince me to buy the Olympus 40-150mm
« on: March 25, 2011, 04:29:11 AM »
If I buy this lens and I like it, then I won't have a reason to keep my Pentax K-x.

So give me some reasons!

Is sharp
 it focuses fairly fast
I have owned the  4/3 version.
Not sure if the m4/3 oneis the same optically.
if it is, you won't be disappointed.
I will post some samples later. I am at a car dealership now getting new straps on my truck gate.

And its over £200 here >:( :( it really takes the biscuit, I would like a tele but its just not something I use enough to blow that much on I would rather but the 20mm. Besides its cheaper to buy the Panasonic 45-200, now a nice 67.5mm prime would make me a happy camper.

That tends to slow things down....
That's why I am selling my Pentax Film gear. I want true macro for my G1, like a Canon 55mm, or Nikkor 55mm macro + adapter.

If I get this lens and love it and don't have a problem taking surfing and sports photos with my E-P1 to a good enough level to justify getting rid of my Pentax K-x, I'll sell that and be able to afford more for my E-P1.

I sold my 14-42mm and added a few bucks to get the 40-150mm. It should arrive in about 3 days, then I will post some samples.

I got it from staples with that trick everyone been using here and other M43 forums.

If you think the 40-150 would make that big of a difference in your kit, you should buy it. If you don't like it, you can always sell it over in the UK for a profit (sorry alex). On the other hand, what happened to your plan to acquire the 17mm? Shouldn't that take priority?

Helgen X: good thinking--sell the 14-42 and acquire the 40-150.

I would like the 17mm, but I'd really like to decide if I want to keep my Pentax K-x or not before it loses all of its value. I never use it but I have my telephoto on it.

Here's a reason.  Wide open at 150mm (not the greatest shot but it shows what the lens can do):

I almost bought a K-m three years ago, but held off and turned to Olympus E-410 instead: thus I was in the box when the E-P1 came out. I like Pentax--their SLRs I mean--but why don't you just sell the bloody thing? The K-x is available for under $500 new. What will you clear $250? Just about enough to get both the 17 and the 40-150--if that sensational price at Staples reoccurs! ;)

I could get $450 for the kit still actually. Only thing I fear is my E-P1 won't be enough for surfing and sports and the Blue Angels.

Olympus 17mm over the 40-150mm
« Reply #22 on: April 05, 2011, 08:16:32 PM »

What are the Blue Angels? Well the chances are that the no matter how good a performer the 40-150 turns out to be, the E-P1 will not be as good for action photography as a good DSLR. So if this is an important element in the kind of photography you do, then I wouldn't sell the Pentax, nor prioritize the 40-150 lens. Get the 17 for the E-P1 first: that fits the E-P1's function . . . and form perfectly. While you're at it, you might try an get the VF-1 also ($59 now on evil-bay) which changes the camera.

Hell if I owned the 40-150 and were in the States, I'd lend you the lens for a month so you could try it out. Anyone out there want to lend Voyager a lens?

The Blue Angels are the elite fighter jets used in an air show called Fleet Week every year in San Francisco.
