The Panny pancake, adash, - he says that in the post.  Congrats to you, exzreal!  May it serve you long & well.  I believe its a great lens that will become a classic.  Hold on to it, - and post some photos when it's been with you for a few days.

Yes, its the 20mm f/1,7. I need a light, fast lens for a trip on wednesday. I have heard some complains about the AF not being very fast.

But it can't be worse then my 14-42mm, right? :)

There are two of them, my friend. The 20/1.7 and 14/2.5. Now I see it is the 20mm.

I have this lens but rarely use it.  I find that I like the 14-150 better but am thinking about getting the 14-140 for my GH2.

the panny pancake20  1.7 [40mm fov] has three things going for it:
its small and flat obviously, its extremely sharp , a very sucessful optical formula ,and lastly it give the speed or light gathering ability,at least for the time being, is the best of any m4\3 native prime , this speed also allows a betterblurring of backround for creative effects than slower linses like olys 17mm 2.8

yes it is a good purchase and a great lens, ive got one too   btw

@adash: Sorry, - you are quite right, adash.  Should have thought about the 'smaller pancake sister' myself.  Maybe 'cos I have no relation to it, it slipped my mind.   :)  Nice lens that one also, but to expensive here, - saving the dough for the 'Oly twelve', - if it's 90% of what it promises on the rumors exchange.

The low light performance of the 20mm open at f1.7 is amazing and very sharp, I took these last Xmas while travelling, it was night already and the light was just a few bulbs in the market stalls, nothing more:

Here are some of my first photos with this lens. Although the high click-noises makes me uneasy, the images are great from this lens.

I too have considered this lens, but at the price, I can't see why there is a need. Sure, low light is great but the quality isn't THAT stellar.  Are there any excellent reviews out there that might outline how useful this lens can be?

hi cats paw ,  it pretty sharp imho , there are sharper lenses out there i suppose , at very least you have extreamly high standards. :)

it been pretty well regarded for sharpness in tests , if i remember right.
40 mm fov is not my favorite i like a little wider or a little closer to 50
a personal prefrence

I have the lens and I think it's very sharp; the quality on a jpeg simply jumps out at you, but I completely agree with the Cosinaphile's assessment of the FOV: either shoot a 35, or even a 28, as a normal which edges into wide angle--great for scene shooting, or shoot a 50 for portraiture and more formally composed shots. Like Cosinaphile, I don't particularly like the 40mm FOV which is in between these two alternatives, and I have found that many phototogs have the same reaction.

It's a great lens to have, very nice is low light, have taken portraits by candlelight. It's not ideal of course for portraits, but so small, my EP1 with it fits in a pocket.

I recently bought a nice "Leica style" lens hood for it, which makes me feel comfortable, also it give a little cover in the rain we have had here for the past month ! I commend that purchase...

Very nice emotion-filled pictures. And they all have a very appealing, smooth film-look to them which I like a lot - the large picture in the last montage (Tor med hängselbyxor) especially so.

Appreciate all your comments. The Panny 20mm is a great lens. The montages were created with picnik.com and no picture was processed before use.

Almost all pictures were taken at f/1.8 and using that aperture correctly indoors can make very nice shots. Not always perfect, like in the image here. I would really love to use f/5.6 or something like that instead, but I don't like to use flash indoors so...

Yeah, focus should really be on the eyes and nose in the same time.
Use bounce flash indoors. Provided that you have a flashgun to achieve that too...
