Are all Panasonic X lenses going to have power zoom?
« on: August 28, 2011, 02:13:29 PM »
This could be an interesting selling point, but if the new pro lenses coming out next year are power zoom only, they're going to miss out on a huge segment of the market of people who don't buy "gimmicky" things.

no way an f 2 lens aimed at a pro or advanced used gonna have a zoom rocker  :o

it perfectly fine to have it on an innovative pancake zoom kit lens as a size reduction feature or on a slow[4-5.6] alternative to the 45-200 like the 45-175 zoom that is also relitively small ,

but high class f2 zooms , they would be crazy to do this in fact if they really wanted to impress the world they would put f stops on the lens
and get crazy traditional with the mf implimentation

I hope not, NO PRO will buy it, or advanced amateur... (expect Video guy/gals I guess)..

To me a Power Zoom is a Bridge-Lens for P/S'rs getting an interchangeably lens camera that has a  body roughly the size of  their advanced P/S camera.

F/stop rings would very cool... It is OK if the camera still uses an electronic means to stop it down.
The O-12/2 has an f/stop ring, right, + Sigma like design for their MF/AF ring.  That was a step in the right direction.

sadly the 12mm f2 oly does not have f stop control on the lens, but the marking for dof at various f stops are engraved  not painted on the lens , and i love them for doing that .....still a lens i love

Put your minds at ease right now, they will not be power zooms.
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

Does the 45-175mm have power zoom?
yes, it has a manual zoom and a zoom switch
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

I still crave for the normal push pull zoom instead of the twisty zoom found on modern lenses.  Power zoom just seems irritating, but I haven't used them much other than on cheep point-n-shoots.
