500mm mirror lens
« on: September 12, 2009, 09:52:15 AM »
Ok, so this is ridiculous. A 500mm  mirror lens, T-Mount to OM adaptor, then MF-2 OM to MFT adaptor.

full-size original: I wish I was the moon tonight

It's the best picture of the moon I've ever taken. It's NOT cropped (except 4:3 to 3:2).

Next full moon, clear skies permitting, I'll try again, but use the anti-shock feature to give the camera time to settle between pressing the shutter release and actually taking the picture. The 2 second self time wasn't quite enough.

500mm = 1000mm with the 2x crop factor. I've got a 2x teleconverter I could use on this, to get a 2000mm equivalent.

Nice pic. I have a Sigma 600mm for the Canon EF mount. Can't wait to try it, along with the Zenitar fish eye. Just have to wait until the adapter prices come down...

Cosinaphile asked for exposure info:
The lens is f8 fixed, ISO was 200, shutter speed was 1/320th of a second. I used spot metering to ensure the exposure was taken off the moon's surface only.

I got this shot with my Astro Scope with my G1 at prime focus.

The focal length is 650mm @ f4, by using the lens cover you can bring this down to f8 which is what I did here. No crop strait from camera.

If I fit a lens and let it project it's image onto the camera sensor you get a more magnified view as here

This is with a 24mm eyepiece, again no crop, a shorter focal length eyepiece would give even more magnification.
