Here you go. A direct challenge to all the defders/admirers of the 17/2.8--

"I don't know what happened, but today, while walking down State Street in Boston, the front part of my M.Zuiko 17mm fell off the front of my lens. I heard it drop off and 'ding' when it hit, but the sidewalk was busy with pedestrians and it was raining, so I couldn't see where it hit.

Once you start building pro M4/3 gear, there is absolutely no size, weight or cost advantage. So the question will become "why bother?"

I think Sony took a much smarter approach with their SLT cameras. These can use every Alpha lens made without an adapter, including all their excellent Zeiss lenses, and still offer small cameras like the A33 and A55, (which are around E620 size) or the larger pro build of the upcoming A77 (which is around E30 size).

Whoa...can you say "manufacturing defect"? But it's not out of the realm of possibility. Just like there could be excellent Ladas, you could run into a "lemon" Cadillac.

Either that or the lens was dropped previously and the loose front element was not detected.

I wouldn't worry about the QC at Olympus. This is rare occurrence. And the 1st I have heard of this.
